As a father and an American, what happened to George Floyd grieves my soul, as it does so many of you. Surely this man, who friends describe as a gentle giant, would find it a grave consequence that his horrific and unnecessary death is now leading to more violence. My distain for this act, and these gut-wrenching examples of injustice and abuse of power, do not reflect my opinion of the vast majority of heroic men and women who serve and protect our communities, cities and state.
We need to come together to address these painful and blatant crimes against our neighbors. Instead of tearing each other further apart, we need to collectively listen, honor, heal and unify.
That’s a process that takes time — a process that as the next governor of Washington, I will lead. The divisiveness stops here. The apathy ends now. Join me, and together we will mend, heal and one day soon transform this senseless divide.
